8 Semantic SEO Copywriting Tips

Welcome to Bouncerank, and in this post I am going to go over with you 8 tips, methods, and strategies to help you better optimize your writing for Semantic SEO.

1. Optimize for Search Intent

Focus on Search Intent; Google’s goal is to give searchers content that matches what they’re looking for.

So in order to improve Search Intent, go to Google type in the keyword that matches your content and see what other websites are doing.

Pay attention to their format and then match your content to fit that!

So if you see a lot of listicle articles for your keyword, maybe you should rework your content to be more like a listicle.

If you see a lot of social media content, even if you don’t have any, you may be able to re-purpose your content into short videos or post for social media.

So always think to yourself:

“How can I repurpose my content to fit what searchers want and need?”

2. Add Schema Markup

Schema Markup is code that helps Googles’ search crawlers better understand what your content is about.

Google is not a person like us, so they cannot read a picture or always understand the context of your content.

By adding Structured data or Schema Markup you can help Google better understand what your content is about and how it helps searchers.

Here’s an example of FAQ schema:

As you can see it takes up more “real estate” in the SERPs which can improve CTR as much as 30% (Search Engine Land).

Here are some other examples of Schema Markup you may want to add:

  • How To
  • Review
  • Local Business
  • Video

Word of caution, I would only focus on one type of schema per page because you don’t want to over optimize.

Also, I would go to Schema.org to learn more about the other different types of Schema Markup you can add to your website.

3. Consult Subject Matter Experts

Use Subject Matter Experts (SMEs); or people that have experience, knowledge and passion for the subject you’re writing about.

So for instance:

if you are writing an article on “three tips on how to keep your teeth clean”.

It is a very good idea to consult a dentist before writing the article.

Why?

because they have the most experience with this topic and therefore can give factual information.

Which all in turns improve the authority and value of your content!

4. Create Topic Clusters/Pillar Pages

Make sure you organize your webpage by topics and sub topics, and then create a guide or in-depth explainer for each topic.

In SEO, we call this making a “pillar page” which are webpages that offer a broad, general idea about a topic. The page then links to more in-depth articles and sub topics.

This also goes hand and hand with Topical Mapping; as you are mapping out what specific pages you are going to focus on, and how you are going to organize them.

Do these things to not only improve indexation, but to also help your website visitors better navigate your website.

5. Use Variations of Keywords

Use keyword variations; this is mistakenly referred to “LSI” or Latent Semantic Indexing, which Google themselves, has come forward and said does not exist.

But this simply means using variations of different keywords in your writing.

So for instance:

If you’re writing an article on cars you might want to use other names for cars in your article:

like “automobile”, “vehicle”“four wheel sedan”, “motor vehicle”.

You get the point.

Again, this helps Google better understand what the topic of your content is and how relevant it is to searchers.

6. Use “People Also Ask” Section for Headings

Even though Google decreased the amount of People Also Ask sections, they are still useful for optimizing your content around, as these questions match exactly what searchers are looking for.

So it would be wise to map your content out in a way that answers these questions.

Below I included an example of a “People Also Ask” snippet:

I would not copy these questions verbatim, because this may come off as too spammy, and as if you are writing for search engines and not people. So use them as a reference, but rework the questions first.

7. Optimize for Voice Search

2022 SEO is very much heavily based on Voice Search so this means making sure your content is easily found by people when they’re searching on their  phone with their voice.

So again, using questions from People Also Ask section can help with this too.

This can also help you optimize for featured snippets.

8. Write as you Speak

This one is my favorite tip: write as you speak, so imagine how boring a piece of writing would be if you just wrote the same word over and over again.

Not only is that Keyword stuffing, but it also makes your writing boring!

So it may be beneficial to speak your writing out loud first and then type it.

What I love to do is use my microphone on my computer, and use voice typing to transcribe what I am saying.

I think this helps make the content more conversational and less wordy.
